How to Set the Time and Date on NEC and Nortel Phone Systems

November 02, 20122 min read

When the clocks change for daylight saving time, many people wonder what happens with their phone system and voicemail clock. Here is what to do for each system.

NEC Elite IPK / 48 / 192

These three models share an identical clock programming procedure:

  1. Press Feature.
  2. Dial 9#.
  3. Enter the hour and minute via dial-pad.
  4. Press Recall to change the AM/PM setting.
  5. Press Hold to change to calendar setting (or press Feature to exit).
  6. Press Recall to select the day of the week.
  7. Dial # to move the cursor to the day of month field.
  8. Enter the day of the month via dial-pad.
  9. Press Recall to select the month.
  10. Dial # to move the cursor to the year field.
  11. Enter the last two digits of the year via dial-pad.
  12. Press Feature.

NEC IPK II and NEC SV8100

These two models share an identical programming procedure for changing the time and date. In newer software releases of the NEC SV8100, the internal clock can synchronize with external NTP (Network Time Protocol) servers. To check whether yours is synchronized, compare the clock against a time server such as the Canada Web Clock. If the time on your phones differs, the internal clock is likely not linked to the time servers. In the Greater Toronto Area, we can send a technician to set this up on your phone system.

The voicemail clock in the SV8100 is automatically synchronized with the phone system clock. In the NEC IPK II, the voicemail clock is either synchronized with the time server (if it has a proper internet connection) or has to be adjusted manually. Adjusting the IPK II voicemail clock manually is complicated, so if yours is off, call us and we can connect the voicemail to the internet and program it to synchronize with the time server.

To change the phone system clock manually on the IPK II or SV8100:

  1. Press the SPEAKER key, enter 728.
  2. Dial 2 digits for the hour (must be in 24 hour clock time).
  3. Dial 2 digits for the minutes.
  4. Press SPEAKER.

Nortel / Norstar Phone Systems and Voicemails

The newer models of the Nortel system get their clock from the telephone line's call display information. The time in the voicemail is automatically synchronized with the phone system clock.
